Industry Pain Points
Abnormal Power Failure
According to relevant industry experts, data centre downtime costs an average of nearly $8,000 per minute in the U.S. With Interxion's outage, the loss was over $9 million.
Large Volume of Energy Consumption and High Proportion of Carbon Emissions
Data centre operation uses large amounts of electricity and energy, requiring the industry to have a significant improvement in the efficiency of electricity use and renewable energy utilization, and the average electricity use efficiency of newly built large-scale and ultra-large-scale data centres should be reduced.
Energy Consumption Limits, Stringent PUE Energy Efficiency Requirements
Promote green upgrading of energy efficiency in key areas of data centres; specify industry PUE values.
Redundant Monitoring Sub-systems
Sub-systems such as integrated self, power monitoring, dynamic ring monitoring, intelligent lighting, video access control, fire monitoring and so on are many, dispersed and independent, with no interoperability of information and no interaction of sub-systems;
Numerous software (more than one APP), difficult maintenance (software, servers, application environments), high cost of learning, users can't get a complete understanding of the power supply, distribution and electricity consumption of the whole data centre through one set of system;
A large number of collection devices, networking devices and cabling are deployed repeatedly and cannot be shared, and similar functional modules such as system management, report reporting and alarm informing are duplicated, so the workload of modifying the configuration rises exponentially.

AcrelEMS-IDC System Functions
Energy Management
1. Electricity use in order: Firstly, the importance of power loads within the data centre is graded (controllable, interruptible, non-interruptible), the load factor of the transformer is monitored in real time, and when the load factor exceeds the set limit, the platform sends out control instructions to reduce the charging power of the controllable loads (charging piles, lighting, etc.) or stops the power supply directly;
2. Demand response: Through the historical data of the load recorded by the EMS platform, combined with the forecast data, it decides in which way to participate in the grid demand response. The platform can adjust the charging and generating time by issuing a control strategy to the energy storage system; the platform adjusts the power of the controllable loads and stops supplying power to the interruptible loads during the demand response time period;
3. Reduce peaks and fill valleys: Through the historical data of electricity load recorded on the platform, it identifies the time pattern, power and duration of "peaks" and "valleys" of the load, and then reasonably sets the charging and discharging time period and duration of the energy storage system after calculation, so as to reduce the capacity tariffs, lower the cost of electricity, and reduce the demand for capacity expansion.
Substation Distribution Monitoring
1. Real-time monitoring of electrical parameters, status and temperature of power distribution related equipment such as transformers, switches, reactive power compensation cabinets, DC panels, bus bars and cables, etc. involved in power distribution, and timely issuance of fault alarm information;
2. Real-time monitoring of the opening and closing status of circuit breakers, trolleys, disconnecting switches, load switches and ground knife switches in the switchgear cabinet, the spring energy storage status of circuit breakers and the remote local control status;
3. It realises the monitoring and control of environmental quantities such as temperature and humidity, flooding, smoke sensors, door magnets, air-conditioning, etc. in the substation to ensure that the environment of the substation and distribution meets the requirements for the operation of the equipment;
4. When a power failure occurs, it sends out an alarm signal, automatically, quickly and selectively removes the faulty components from the power system, protects the primary equipment, prevents the accident from spreading, quickly restores power supply, and can record the fault waveform for subsequent fault analysis.
Distributed Photovoltaic
1. Rooftop:
a. Inverter DC-side and AC-side operation status monitoring and alarming;
b. Inverter and Power Plant generation statistics and analyses;
c. Grid-connected cabinet power monitoring and generation statistics;
d. Statistics on the annual effective utilisation hours of power station capacity to identify inefficient power stations.
2. Power substation:
a. Generation revenue statistics (subsidy revenue, grid connection revenue);
b. Irradiance/wind/ambient temperature and humidity monitoring;
c. Grid-connected power quality monitoring and analysis.
Energy Storage Monitoring
1. On-line monitoring of storage battery and PCS operation, including operation mode, power control mode, information on predetermined values of power, voltage, current, frequency, etc., storage battery charging and discharging voltage, current, SOC, temperature, pressure, flow rate;
2. Status alarms, energy storage battery charging/discharging status, AC/DC overvoltage/undervoltage, AC/DC overcurrent, frequency over/under alarms, over-temperature, overload, and leakage protection;
3. Remote setup, PCS start, stop, power setting, unit operation parameter setting;
4. Setting the charging and discharging strategy of the energy storage system according to the characteristics of peaks and valleys and the fluctuation of electricity prices, controlling the charging and discharging modes of the energy storage system, realising peak shaving and valley filling, and reducing the cost of electricity consumption.
Charging Pile Billing and Management
1. Charging management, support for charging reservation, to achieve timed, fixed amount, fixed amount charging, can be set up for the whole period of the unit price and time unit price settings;
2. Enables alarm management, including power overload, plug pulled out, line undervoltage, line overvoltage, and leakage;
3. Adjust the charging power of the charging pile according to the change of the load rate, so that the power distribution system can operate stably and safely.
Power Quality Analysis and Management
The impact of large-scale grid integration of new energy generation on voltage causes voltage fluctuation, flicker, temporary rise and fall. The randomness of new energy power generation, grid frequency fluctuations. New energy power generation grid-connected prone to obvious voltage and current harmonics, to avoid superposition between load-side harmonics and grid-connected harmonics or oscillations in a certain frequency band.
Electrical Safety Monitoring & Protection
1. Electrical fire detectors are installed in low-voltage distribution circuits to monitor and manage fire hazard parameters such as residual current and conductor temperature in the distribution circuits;
2. Installation of electrical node temperature measurement devices at busbar joints, circuit breaker plum blossom contacts, cable joints, low-voltage cabinet frame circuit breaker joints, drawer outlet joints, etc., to sense the temperature of the joints in real time;
3. In low-voltage distribution circuits such as charging piles, electrical fire protection current-limiting protectors are installed to rapidly limit short-circuit currents at microsecond speeds for arc extinguishing protection, which can significantly reduce electrical fire accidents.
Equipment Control and Energy Efficiency Management
1. End air-conditioning control, by replacing the end control panel of the central air-conditioner with an intelligent panel with communication, it can remotely monitor the operating status of the end fan, and can realise functions such as remote opening, centralised closing, identification of abnormal operating hours, temperature setting, air speed setting, mode setting, and so on;
2. Intelligent lighting control, to achieve timer control, scene control, floor centralised control, dimming settings, combined with infrared sensors, ultrasonic sensors, to achieve people come to light up, people go out lights;
3. Real-time monitoring of the operation of energy-consuming equipment such as central air-conditioners and air compressors, calculation of energy-efficiency values, identification of inefficient equipment, formulation of programmes and retrofitting and upgrading.
Through the end equipment control, reduce the unreasonable power consumption at the end, improve energy use efficiency, reduce energy waste, energy saving and carbon reduction.
